The recording process for any band’s sophomore album is always a daunting one, but none so much as the follow up to Scars on Broadway’s debut self-titled album.

By taking on the entire recording process upon his own shoulders, playing all of the instruments on the upcoming album, this album will clearly be a very personal one for System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian when it is released in 2013.

Speaking to Revolver magazine, Malakian opened up about the band’s second release, which will feature tracks such as Till The End and Dictator.

He said: “The songs are never just about one thing. They’re usually about five different things.”

When pushed for specifics, he opened up about album track Fuck N Kill: “It’s about a few emotions that blend together and make a person maybe want to do both-maybe at the same time, or one after the other, who knows?” he said.

“Like, you watch television and you see on the news that there’s a war going on, but the girl that’s explaining it to you is fucking gorgeous. How does your brain take that? Or there’s a line that says, ‘Let’s take drugs and go to war. You have these soldiers that come home from combat with PTSD [Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder] and we just give them pills and send them back out. So there are a lot of different ideas going on.”

The as yet untitled album has not yet got an official release date but is expected to hit stores in 2013. For a first listen to Fuck N Kill, as well as They Say off the band’s debut album, check out the live video below.
