Top 10 Funny Rock Music Videos

Music videos; now universally accepted as a way to sell music to the masses. There are some great, deep, thought-provoking videos out there, but they don’t all have to be like that. Here’s a countdown of the top 10 comedy music videos…

10. Red Hot Chili PeppersUniversally Speaking

Following a fan’s quest to meet his heroes, who unsurprisingly are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, this video is a brilliant mix of live performance and skits highlighting the ridiculous lengths a fan would go to live their dream.

9. Alien Ant FarmMovies

In this video, the band find themselves inside a movie screen, resulting in hilarious spoofs of numerous films, from Ghostbusters to Edward Scissorhands.

8. Tenacious DTribute

Starting with Jack and Kyle attempting to record their album in a mall, the video jumps into the narrative of how Tenacious D came to play “The greatest song in the world”. Worth a watch just for Dave Grohl’s cameo as Satan.

7. Ok GoHere It Goes Again

Fourteen million hits on Youtube isn’t a fluke. This infamous video spread like wildfire upon the single’s release back in September of 2006. You may know it as “that video with the treadmills” but it certainly helps that the song is a cracker too.

6. SteriogramWalkie Talkie Man

This video shows what a band can come up with if they are given a decent budget and a seemingly unlimited supply of yarn. Even more respect has to go out to those who spent hours perfecting stop-motion animation to create one of the more innovative videos in this countdown.

5. Good CharlotteGirls & Boys

Not the most thought-provoking track ever written granted, but at times the Girls & Boys video is both hilarious and creepy in equal measure. Depicting pensioners carrying out the every day activities of an American teen, this is one you won’t forget.

4. Foo FightersLearn To Fly

The band who some argue revolutionised comedy rock videos, what countdown would be complete with an appearance from the Foo Fighters? So many classic videos to choose from, but Learn To Fly pips the band’s other brilliant videos into this list. Cameo appearances from Tenacious D don’t hurt either.

3. Blink-182Man Overboard

Blink-182 have never taken themselves too seriously, and this has proven true in the vast majority of their videos to date. All The Small Things and What’s My Age Again? are both quoted as brilliant comedy videos, but it takes a lot of guts to parody your own videos, which is exactly what Man Overboard achieves.

2. The Damned Things – We’ve Got a Situation Here

What better way to stamp your arrival on the rock music scene than with a brilliantly funny music video, in which the band members aim to “rock the streets clean” using their laser-enhanced instruments, although the band aren’t quite as successful as they’d like to be!

1. BlurCoffee & TV

So here we are, top of the list are Brit-pop legends Blur with classic track Coffee & TV. The video tells the bizarre story of a milk-carton on a quest to find Blur guitarist Graham Coxon. The journey sees him avoid death at the hands of lawn-mowers and trash-kicking kids, and fall in love with a carton of strawberry milk. This video is a must-see, and at times is equally as sad as it is funny. Enjoy.
