Biffy Clyro have started work on experimental their sixth studio album.
Speaking to BBC 6 Music Simon explained that this album would be a move back to their more experimental roots:
“We’ve got some really obscure things going on. We’ve got a kind of prog country song, which we never thought we’d do, and some weird kind of math rock stuff meets almost goth rock. It’s hard to explain just yet but there are moments that are odd.”
The band are currently working on 30 tracks, although this is likely to be cut down before recording begins.
Two of the tracks; Black Chandelier and the Joke’s On Us have made their way into recent live performances so are expected to make an appearance on the upcoming album. The band first played The Joke’s On Us on July 2nd 2011 in front of 65,000 fans in support of the Foo Fighters at Milton keynes Bowl.
The album is expected to be released during the summer of 2012.
